Custom Pizza Packaging
In the heart of Melbourne, a new takeaway spot is bringing the soul of Italian street food to life. Romanello is a vibrant Italian eatery located at 93 Therry Street in Melbourne, directly across from the Queen Victoria Market. Specializing in traditional pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice) and schiacciata sandwiches, Romanello brings a taste of Italy to the heart of the city. Their signature schiacciata bread, similar to focaccia but thinner and crispier, is baked fresh on-site daily. The menu is dynamic, with offerings that change based on the freshest seasonal produce sourced from the neighboring market. The brief was clear, create an identity that was bold, irreverent, and deeply rooted in tradition—without feeling outdated.
Together with Olga Capdevila, we crafted a visual identity that embraces spontaneity and play. During our research, we stumbled upon Herold, a long-forgotten typeface from 1901 hidden in an old book. Intrigued by its raw character, we asked Arto Vaverka to rescue and digitize it, transforming it into a logotype that could be deconstructed and reassembled—like pizza toppings—reinforcing the brand’s playful and hands-on approach.
